Dried Citrus Garland

DIY

This is the easiest thing ever. AND I’VE NEVER BEEN PROUDER. I have spent an ungodly amount of time making banners and garlands, and they are very time consuming! This dried citrus garland is one of the easiest projects I’ve made – even easier than paper.

First, gather all the materials. You’ll want to select fresh citrus so it’s firmer and easier to cut.

You’ll need:

  • Grapefruit

  • Orange

  • Blood Orange

  • Lemon

  • Lime
    (I used 2 grapefruits, 3 oranges, 1 blood orange, 2 lemons and a lime)

  • Twine/string

  • Large eye plastic sewing/lacing needle

Preheat oven to 200 degrees and lightly spray your pan with oil.

  1. Slice fruit as thin as possible.

  2. Dab sliced fruit with kitchen or paper towels to absorb any extra moisture.

  3. Place in the oven for 5-9 hours, depending on thickness.

  4. Flip fruit every half hour. If it looks like fruit is burning and not drying, reduce the temp to 180-190.

  5. Once the fruit is dried to your liking, let it cool. I let some brown/almost burn for a darker brown shade.

  6. Once completely cooled, grab your twine and plastic needle, and start stringing! There will be a front and back to this garland, so make sure the fruit is on the side you want to show while stringing!

THAT’S IT! So cute, SO EASY, and just YAY.

It makes me happy to have some cute DIY Thanksgiving decor. I’m a huge advocate for Thanksgiving because it definitely got the ugliest colors, and is forgotten. Also, I have a small house and I don’t like the clutter that Christmas decor brings. LOL.

If you want to keep this garland up through the holiday season, you can add cinnamon sticks and rosemary to give it a real Christmassy feel and smell! I also bought some star anise to add, but I can’t decide if I can tolerate the smell.

Anyway, I’m so thankful for you guys it’s annoying!

Hope you love your dried citrus garland as much I do.

Always and Whatever
