"Homemade" Pop-Tarts
My daughter, Quinn, has a peanut allergy. She cannot have products manufactured in the same facility as peanuts. That means she can’t have a lot of the “good stuff,” like store-bought Pop-Tarts. Not wanting her to miss out on such a fun and yummy treat, I found this super easy alternative. I call them mini pies, and they are Chris and Quinn’s favorite!
Step 1: Spray your cookie sheet with oil. On a different surface, roll out one pie crust and cut it into 4 squares.
Step 2: Add a spoonful of jam (any flavor) and flatten it down so that it’s level (and not a pregnant pop-tart)!
Step 3: Roll out second pie crust and cut into quarters, just like step 1. Put these squares on top of the jam.
Step 4: Pinch the edges together. Using a fork, press the edges together to make the crinkle look.
Step 5: Use a fork to poke holes in top of the pop-tart so that it does not explode.
Step 6: Bake at 425° (or whatever your pie crust box says) for 13-15 minutes. Stay close, they burn fast!
Step 7: When they are done cooking, remove them from the oven and immediately add a dollop of frosting to each one. Let it melt over the crust, adding the sprinkles while the icing is hot. This helps them stick better!
Step 8: ENJOY, and pat yourself on the back. You just made the cutest treat ever!
Until next time friends!
